Telluride is unique in that it has two of the most popular and sought-after characteristics of a ski town. On one side of the mountain is Telluride proper, a picturesque little mining town nestled in a deep box canyon. Telluride the town has everything a little western Colorado mountain town should have: rough-hewn yet gorgeous mine-style buildings, a relaxed and casual attitude, and hippies and counter-culture galore.
On the other side of the ski mountain, and connected by a free public transportation gondola (the only one of its kind in the US!), is the town of Mountain Village. Mountain Village is a much more recent development, only coming to life in the last 15 years or so. It is almost entirely made up of ski condos, incredibly beautiful (and incredibly expensive) vacation homes, and ski lifts. Virtually every location in the town is ski-in-ski-out. And so for all 4 visits, we have abided by the Telluride ski trip code: stay in Mountain Village for the convenience; gondola over to Telluride for the culture. Perfect!
And really, can you ever get used to a view like this?

Lodging:
The Mountain Lodge at Telluride. Comfortable, cozy condos, a short walk to the ski run, and a charming lodge complete with hot tub. What else do you need?
Food:
Rustico Restaurant. Delicious, upscale Italian food. A perfect date night location. Warning: partake of their amazing wine selection sparingly; you're at a high altitude!
Smuggler's Brew Pub. Stop in for a burger, a microbrew and the big game. Great atmosphere!
Baked in Telluride. A charming pastry, coffee and pizza shop in downtown Telluride. If you're a little worn out from all that skiing, bring a book and hang out in the corner with a cup a'joe. Great people-watching locale as well!
